Meet The Pajama Chef

Hello, and welcome to The Pajama Chef! My name is Sarah, and this is my life in a nutshell… well, several nutshells since a lot of peanuts are required to make my favorite food – peanut butter! Mmmmm….

My little family :)

  • I married Ben in May 2009. We met through an internship with Campus Crusade for Christ at Ohio University, in Athens, Ohio. For the first four years of our marriage, we lived in Bloomington, Indiana so I could attend grad school. In September 2013, we moved to Nashville, Tennessee so I could start my career as an academic librarian. Nashville is a fun city that we love exploring! In May 2015, we moved into our first house and a year later, in May 2016, we welcomed our first baby to the family! I call him #BabyVolde online and he is just as cute as can be! I guess we like to do big things in May. 🙂

  • Aside from having a human baby, we also have three kitties. Our first is my baby…  Sheba Genevieve. [Sheba was her name when we adopted her from the shelter in May 2010, but I just had to give her a middle name. I picked Genevieve because it sounds so romantic. So what if it’s not exactly cat-name material?! :)] Fun fact: her name was originally spelled “Sheeba” but we thought the double e was weird so that was nixed right away.

  • Two years later, in June 2012, we adopted Misty Morning Fog. [Misty was her name from the animal shelter, but she’s gray with white patches and paws, like she dipped them in the clouds on a foggy day.] She has the most expressive eyes!

  • We unintentionally adopted our third kitty in February 2015, Isa Marie. Isa means “ice” in the old Germanic runes language, and is a fitting name for her because we found her outside in an ice storm when she was a tiny kitten. The vet estimated that she was about 7-8 weeks old. We weren’t planning to get another cat but when one is in need… we are just softies! 🙂

Isa Marie!

  • The most important relationship in my life is my relationship with Jesus. I wouldn’t be who I am today without His love and grace, and it pains me to even imagine a life without Christ. So I don’t.
  • Cooking and baking have long been passions of mine. I remember baking cookies with my grandma each Christmas, and had many a kitchen mishap in my childhood days [1/4 cup of baking soda in cookies, anyone?]. Since graduating from college in 2007, my love for creating tasty food of all types – healthy, sweet, ethnic, comfort, etc. – has only grown. With a husband who has a hardy appetite, this zeal is definitely a good thing!
  • Running is my most favorite thing ever [it’s a good thing too, since I like to eat!]. I ran cross country and track throughout junior high, high school, and college. Now I train for road races [5Ks, half marathons, and marathons]. I’ve run five marathons: Cincinnati in May 2008, Cleveland in May 2011, Columbus in October 2011, Indianapolis in October 2013, and Nashville in April 2015. Not sure when my next marathon will be… having a baby has cut into my running habits quite a bit, but I hope to run another one day!
  • I graduated from Indiana University in May 2013, with a Master of Library Science and a Master of Arts in African Studies. I am also an alumna of Wittenberg University and Kappa Delta Sorority.
  • I love getting good deals/couponing, peanut butter, traveling, Diet Coke, Africa, caramel lattes, reading cheesy chick-lit and Holocaust memoirs [here’s my Goodreads profile], sitting on my porch, Vera Bradley, grocery shopping, and living in my pajamas. Hence the name The Pajama Chef. If it was socially acceptable, I would wear pajamas 24/7!
  • My sister also just started a blog. I helped her make it look pretty. 🙂 Check it out at two happy bellies.

Feel free to contact me at pajamachef@gmail.com. I would love to hear from you!

Here’s another post to help us get more acquainted. 🙂

    1. Hello Sara,
Your Dad just popped into A Secret Garden in Vail, Colorado with your beautiful son. When your Dad said his name the first thing that came to my mind was that he’d be an amazing writer/poet one day. Not knowing that you write as well! Good luck in your future adventures with your little family, and I will be sure to try some of your recipies.

  1. Miss Sarah: Do you think your “blog fans” would like to know what wonderful “chow” Sheba Genevieve and Misty Morning Fog enjoy each day? I will follow your writings, with an expectation of learning the secret foods of Sheba and Misty. Love, Dad
